This short documentary provides an insight to the challenges that the Mekong region’s smallholder farmers face as industrial development and agrarian changes threaten their rights and access to land and natural resources. The documentary illustrates how the Mekong Region Land Governance (MRLG) project is working with partners on various initiatives in the Mekong countries. The project has ongoing activities in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam and we take a glimpse at three initiatives.
The video demonstrates how the regional project has navigated complex issues across the countries. It is contributing to policy-making at national level and making an impact for smallholder farmers and ethnic minorities at the local level to ensure they are not left behind by development.
MRLG has been initiated by Government of Switzerland, through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), with German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the Government of Luxembourg co-financing and strategic oversight. The MRLG project is implemented by Land Equity International and Gret, supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH.
